Island getaway to Koh Samed was amazing despite the fact that I have packed nothing. Yes, absolutely nothing.
I decided to share a little bit of my newly acquired wisdom. Turns out that packing merely a toothbrush only looks romantic in movies. Who would have known?
Alternatively, you can call it: “I should have packed THAT!” or “How to never pack”.
As a result of me not using a brain for 5 minutes, my beige shorts are ruined; my photos look like I have been on one long day journey, and I felt like a sweaty stupid tourist until we got back home.
WHAT TO PACK FOR A TWO-DAY ISLAND GETAWAY
Oh, yes. How I wished I had at least a nice pareo with me. Going to the beach in the same clothes that you have just been to the jungle feels at least itchy. Furthermore, I will never forget that feeling when in the evening you see women in their best stuff while I am trying to forget desperately that I have been sweating into same clothes for more than 24 hours.
What I packed was this: nothing. I just put on a white Henley paired with some beige shorts and that was IT! I did take one pair of spare underwear (thank you for not asking) and my Australian hat. What I should have packed was a pareo to go to the beach, a sleeping shirt, two dressy shirts (one of which I would be wearing), one black
WHAT TO PACK FOR A DAY & EVENING
Two dressy shirts (one of which I would be wearing). One longer than the other that can translate into a dress when you go out to a restaurant in the evening.
Black shorts that go with everything and that do not show stains. From daily activities to an extra layer for an additional cover-up, it would have been a perfect item to have.
WHAT TO PACK FOR A BEACH:
- A pareo to go to the beach and to and from hotel.
- A nice two piece bathing suit.
- A backpack to fit in all the above and to take with me when adventuring around.
Absolutely nothing should be tight and be clinging to a body. The tighter the shirt, shorts, dress, pants, anything except for the bra, the angrier and annoyed you might feel by the end of the day.
Anger has no place on the romantic getaway! Yeah…lesson learned. NEXT!
MY OWN SHAMPOO AND BRUSH
When one has a sensitive scalp bringing my own shampoo is not only good idea it is essential.
A MANICURE KIT AND ONE DISPOSABLE BLADE
No one likes to deal with a broken nail or a pointing or a cut cuticle. NO one!
FACE CREAM OR MOISTURIZER
Sun exposure does dry up my skin even if it is oily. One has to have sun protection at all times. It is all good and nic for now when I am younger. It will be a different story when I am older and have skin pigmentation from forehead to my toes. Noooooo, thank you.
WOMEN ONLY EMERGENCY KIT (a.k.a. hygienic things and painkillers just in case).
I was almost begging my body to start some other day. Just imagine that we were on an island that is very small and where a sale of condoms surpluses sale of pads in ratio 5:0.
So, in the end, all that misery could have been avoided had I thought about it for more than five minutes. This minimum set of clothes and accessories would fit into a small backpack.
May the future bring you and me more island getaway(s) to remember!
