Your questions just got my confessions Part 2
As promised, here are my answers to your questions Part 2. I already covered some questions in Part 1 this is the second part that sheds some light about our travel style and preferences. Ready?
Here we go…
I wanted the name to be different from any other travel blog out there. Board stands for boards that you usually see at the airport. The ones that show you your flight status. Number 13 has always been my favorite number because it usually discriminated against. I neither associate any magical qualities with it nor believe in stuff like that. Number 13 is an unlucky number in most countries. I guess both words sounded good together so that is why I picked it.
Yes, I do. Every other time we stumble on to the next “cozy” retreat, an alarm goes off in my head. Coming from a designer background, I become restless with my imagination. The best part is realizing that we are leaving and that our living situation is going to be better next time. That is how I learn from my renting mistakes. In fact, bad properties inspired me so much that I am going to write about it in a separate post. It is going to be attributed to landlords who rent out their properties and want at least a repeat business and a good review. So stay tuned for some cozy retreat tips!
Every three months or so Mr. K’s parents visit us wherever we are in the world. That is when I have a chance to change my wardrobe either completely or partially. I tend to buy quality stuff right from the start so I do not throw away anything for a very long time. To this day, you can see the same blue dress I bought in Australia from 2012.
It all depends on conditions, amount of money, and political stability of a country. Mr. K and I are open to buying a property outside of Canada but we haven’t found the perfect location yet.
We both prefer an apartment. I grew up in a family that had several houses and I am not ready to commit to a house. In my experience, houses need to be repaired constantly. Even in a new house, it is impossible to save on repairs. A good soundproof condominium is a way to go for me.
There is Facebook, Skype, WhatsUp, Line and many other networks that I use in order to keep up with friends and family. Since our wedding, we decided to meet up everywhere we go. That way everyone gets to enjoy new, nice, and awesome destinations. Since then I have met both my parents, grandparents, aunt, and cousins all over the world. I actually think that some of the members of our family we see more because of our travels.
Recently we were called digital nomads and I have to say that it sure fits. Depending on the time spent per country, we like to cover as much ground as possible by pretending to be local. Most of the time I am the one who plans, researches, and schedules everything. Mr K is busy with work. We like to rent apartments from locals, live in a non-touristy area, shop at the grocery stores, and cook our own meals. Sure, we go out and treat ourselves but we also try to do it where locals do it.
Funny enough, many people assume that we do something new and go out every day. It is true when someone comes for a visit or if we are visiting a new country for only a couple of days. Otherwise, we have a routine that keeps us on schedule and in check. A typical day for us is work and research from 9 to 19.00 with breakfast, lunch, and dinner in between. Mr K has ongoing projects with his programming business and I have my blog as well as a new location research, entertainment calendar booking, and cooking, and cleaning. We try to do cleaning around the house together but I prefer to do it myself.
In terms of what we like to see. Mr K and I are up for anything we haven’t tried before as long as it is safe. We do seek opportunities to challenge our comfort zones and expand our horizons when it is not toxic or potentially lethal to our bodies. Do we do touristy stuff? Sometimes we do. How else can you suggest others not to do something? 🙂
Here it is! I think I covered most of them well. Let me know if you have any questions about our travels, lifestyle or anything else. I would be happy to answer them. Please leave them in the comments down below or email me Julia.email@example.com “If you don’t ask, you don’t receive!”
